In the heart of New York City’s West Village, where cobblestone streets meet historic townhouses, Open Architectural Windows & Doors was excited to play a role in a unique project that quietly redefines luxury, landmark window installation.
Located on West 11th Street, in the heart of the West Village, this residence embodies a rare balance—preserving architectural heritage while introducing a new layer of precision-engineered modern living.

This particular enclave of the West Village in which this property is situated is renowned for its eclectic mix of 19th-century styles, ranging from late Federal-style brick houses to ornate Greek Revival and Italianate brownstones. The street is is filled with low-rise residential buildings that have remained remarkably preserved under the watchful eye of the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC). For a luxury renovation at such a prestigious address, every window and door must act as a bridge between two worlds, which means respecting the hand-crafted textures of New York’s past while meeting the uncompromising high-performance needs and standards of modern luxury living.
From the street, the transformation is intentionally understated, which one could be forgiven for not noticing at first glance, is intentionally understated.

Custom wood systems were developed to replicate the original facade with near-forensic accuracy. This entailed creating:
These elements ensure that the installation blended seamlessly into the street.
Beneath the classic appearance lies modern engineering:
This is where custom windows in NYC evolve, by managing to retain their look and feel while being updated to perform for the present.
The entry door serves as a transition between the building’s: historic exterior and its contemporary interior.
Designed as a bespoke architectural element, it reflects the core philosophy of luxury systems design.

The door integrates:
A hidden wiring infrastructure was developed to support high-end security systems—completely invisible to the eye, yet essential to modern living.
Every detail, down to the custom mortising of locks, was executed with precision typically reserved for one-of-a-kind residences.
If the front facade is about preservation, the rear is about expression.

Using ultra-slim steel systems, we designed and installed:

The result is a clean, modern aesthetic that both contrasts and complements the historic design.
The addition of a custom skylight transforms the upper level by introducing:

This intervention introduces some welcome natural light as a defining architectural element.
